IoT global leader joins European Union initiative for sustainable development
Barcelona, October 2019
All across European countries, raw materials are used in transport and energy, in the construction and automotive sector, for machinery, chemicals or medical equipment, to name a few. They have a crucial role for economic growth and well-being of the population and are fundamental in Europe’s industrial activity.
EIT RawMaterials, initiated and funded by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), a body of the European Union, is the largest consortium in the raw materials sector worldwide. EIT RawMaterials was designated in 2014 to secure industrial leadership and sustainable development of the raw materials sector.
This innovation community is a European network for finding new, cutting-edge solutions that help the industry tackle global challenges using competitive innovation while addressing environmental challenges.
The EIT RawMaterials is composed of more than 120 core and associate partners and over 190 project partners of leading businesses, universities and research & technology organizations from over 20 EU countries. EIT RawMaterials together with the EU is committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, driving and fostering innovation in the mineral, metals and raw materials sector contributing to the green energy transition in Europe.
Connecting business, research, and education EIT RawMaterials helps strengthening innovation initiatives across the entire raw materials value chain, from exploration, mining and mineral processing to substitution, recycling, and circular economy.
Recognition for creating innovative and smart technology for the Raw Materials Sector
For over a decade Worldsensing has provided Internet-of-Things solutions to mining companies to reduce risk and improve efficiency of operations.
“The raw material industry is making efforts to promote sustainable growth and technology is the best ally for that. Introducing innovative products, processes and services has an impact on European competitiveness and employment. We are delighted to join the largest innovation community in the raw materials sector worldwide and consolidate interactions across-Europe innovation ecosystems,” says Ignasi Vilajosana, CEO and co-founder of Worldsensing.
Worldsensing’s wireless monitoring system Loadsensing is currently deployed in more than 60 mines worldwide. Loadsensing connects mines to the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing automatic and remote data collection. The mine operator receives more reliable and frequent data which enables better real-time monitoring of operations and mining assets.
EIT RawMaterials facilitates innovation projects that help adopt digital technologies in mines to improve productivity, minimize risks and create a safer working environment.
About Loadsensing
Loadsensing is the leading wireless monitoring system allowing industrial companies to connect and wirelessly monitor infrastructures in remote locations. The data acquisition system is the industry reference for wireless geotechnical monitoring as it is currently used to monitor over 50.000 sensors worldwide. Loadsensing is compatible with most geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring sensors and may be integrated with various data visualization software.
