Worldsensing LoRa Network

Reliable - Power Efficient - Secure Data Flow

The Worldsensing LoRa Network is a private, LPWAN network. It’s a key component of our leading IoT remote monitoring solution.

Our LoRa Network is based on the LoraWan standard. It has been developed with large-scale IoT communications in mind where it’s necessary to:

  • Cover vast distances,
  • Transmit signals through physical barriers,
  • Minimize maintenance operations and site visits.

All this, while allowing massive scale at low deployment and maintenance costs.

LoRA Network Key Features

Discover how you can leverage IoT remote monitoring solutions in your underground projects

LONG RANGE

Gateways can transmit and receive signals over a distance of up to 15 kilometers in rural areas and up to 5 kilometers in dense urban areas.

LOW POWER

Edge devices are optimized to operate in low-power mode and can last up to 10 years with minimum maintenance.

LICENCE FREE SPECTRUM

Save on expensive frequency spectrum license fees by deploying a LoRa network.

HIGH CAPACITY

LoRa Network Servers can handle millions of messages from thousands of gateways. Which means you save on operational costs.

END-TO-END SECURITY

LoRa networks ensure secure communication between the end device and the application server using AES standard. Mutual end-point data origin authentication Integrity and replay protection (available in cloud only).

OPERATIONAL ROBUSTNES

The solution can withstand harsh weather conditions and is ideal for underground environments and high altitudes.

CLOUD OR LOCAL SERVER CONFIGURATION

Choose between single-network local server configuration or multi-network cloud configuration with extended LoRaWAN features according to your project needs.

SINGLE OR MULTIHOP NETWORK TOPOLOGIES

Worldsensing’s LoRa Networks can be deployed either as single gateway with a one-hop network configuration or in a multi hop configuration using repeaters.

Choose your Network Topology

LoRa Networks can work on a single or multi-hop configuration to match your project needs.

LoRa Star: The Single-Hop Network

Ideal for Surface Projects

Deploy monitoring systems in remote and often difficult-to-access areas. LoRa Star is a single-hop network technology which doesn’t need repeaters. When in open sight, you can reach up to 15km of network coverage, more than any comparable network. The simple deployment and powerful radio range makes it ideal for monitoring large-scale civil infrastructure in the transport, surface mining and construction industries.

LoRa Star can work in a single-gateway network configuration for local projects or in a multi-gateway configuration to manage multiple networks through Worldsensing’s CMT Cloud platform.

“One of the gateways that we first installed has kept on monitoring for years, without any work done on it. I haven’t had to check that gateway since I installed it. This kind of reliability is one of the biggest advantages of this [Worldsensing] system.”

Chief Operations Officer, Geosinergia

Lora Tree: The Multi-Hop Network

Ideal for Underground Environments

Leverage Worldsensing’s LoRa Tree network topology to extend the radio range of your network up to 10 km in monitoring projects that include intricate topologies, radio signal obstacles or poor internet connectivity:

  • Long urban tunnels with several turns
  • Widespread areas with tall vegetation
  • Galleries, ventilation shafts and other underground infrastructures

The key component of this network topology is the K20 Edge Repeater. The repeater is able to receive a signal from a node and retransmit it to the gateway. You can install repeaters strategically to overcome radio signal obstacles such as walls, ramps and curves to transmit data up to 10 km underground.

LoRa Tree runs in a single-gateway configuration through CMT Edge.

UNDERGROUND COMMUNICATIONS

When LoRa Tree outperforms Mesh Networks

In closed environments such as underground mines, mesh technologies operate in a tree-like network topology. This is due to the complex topography of the environment and the linear nature of the communications. Under these circumstances, Worldsensing LoRa outperforms the communication coverage using simpler, more robust telecommunication topology.
