InnovaMina
Digital innovations in mining
Digital solutions introduced to mining, such as distributed sensors combined with data analysis, boost efficiency, safety, and sustainability. They enable operational optimization, predictive maintenance, and reduced environmental impact.
InnovaMina project develops and validates three products that will digitalize the mining industry. These solutions integrate optical IoT devices, fiber-optic sensing, and machine-learning analytics to enable continuous, real-time monitoring of structural stability in infrastructures such as slopes and Tailing Dams.
InnovaMina unites academia and industry to deliver three complementary, non-invasive monitoring solutions that will provide actionable insights and enhance operational efficiency. The following products will be developed and validated at two pilot sites with end user mining operators:
- IoT-based diffractometry for continuous, real-time detection of structural movements
- An anomaly-detection module to monitor operations and ensure sensor-network integrity
- Fiber-optic shear-wave-velocity mapping for early warnings of subsurface anomalies
InnovaMina originates from two prior EIT Raw Materials projects: AMICOS, which developed real-time IoT geotechnical monitoring using mechanical tilt and displacement sensors, and SEC4TD, which created a scalable, cloud-native platform to harmonise heterogeneous GNSS data feeds. It extends the validated components of these previous projects and introduces capabilities via three complementary monitoring modalities.
