G7 Vibrating Wire Data Logger operational modes

In addition to periodic readings, the G7 Vibrating Wire Data Logger comes with advanced operational modes that help you optimize workflows, extend battery life, and reduce the number of devices required in the field.

New

Triggered Measurements mode

The G7 Vibrating Wire Data Logger motion detection sensor detects activity events from variations in absolute angle, angular velocity, or acceleration. When a significant movement is detected, it triggers the primary sensor to capture detailed measurements, exactly when you need them.

You can customize when and how many measurements are taken (on event, after event, both, or across multiple events) and set delays and cooldown periods to match your monitoring needs.

This intelligent mode reduces unnecessary data transmission, keeps battery consumption low, and focuses on the movements that matter most, giving you actionable insights without overloading your system.

Applications

Explore the wide range of monitoring solutions that the G7 Vibrating Wire Data Logger enables across geotechnical, structural and remote process monitoring.

Geotechnical Monitoring

Structural Monitoring

Remote Process Monitoring

In-ground horizontal movements over the profile of the hole

Multi-point borehole extensometer In-place extensometer

Leverage compatibility with all major manufacturers of multi-point extensometers (MPBX) and in-place extensometers (IPX). Connect any vibrating wire, potentiometer, or analog displacement sensors installed in the head of the extensometer to the appropriate data logger. Digital MPBXs allow for reading more points with a single Digital data logger and enable the connection of more than one MPBX to the node.

Cross-crack movements

Laser Tiltmeter Crackmeter Wireline extensometer

Detect slope movements by monitoring tension cracks across landslides using a displacement sensor compatible with Worldsensing’s Analog or Vibrating Wire data logger. For situations with large movements anticipated, wireline extensometers, draw wire sensors, or the Laser Tiltmeter can be suitable alternatives.

Paste backfill monitoring

Pressure cell Piezometer

Total pressure cells at different orientations and piezometers can be connected to a 6-channel Vibrating Wire data logger to interpret the behavior of the paste backfilling and the load on the barricade.

In-ground displacement between anchors within a borehole

Multi-point piezometer Multi-point borehole extensometer

Leverage compatibility with all major manufacturers of multi-point extensometers (MPBX) and in-place extensometers (IPX). Connect any vibrating wire, potentiometer, or analog displacement sensors installed in the head of the extensometer to the appropriate data logger. Digital MPBXs allow for reading more points with a single Digital data logger and enable the connection of more than one MPBX to the node.

If higher spatial resolution is needed, a chain of in-place extensometers can be installed in the borehole and connected to a Digital data logger.

Total pressure in soils & contact soil pressures

Pressure cell

Measure total pressure (effective stress and pore water pressure) within embankments, such as tailings dams, and fills to determine its distribution and magnitude. Pressure cells can also be used to measure at the interface between soil and structures. Assess the total pressure measurements with pressure cells connected to the Vibrating Wire 6-channel data logger.

Pore water pressure & level

Piezometer Multi-point piezometer

Connect piezometers and multi-point piezometers from all the major geotechnical sensor manufacturers. Use 1-channel, 2-channel or 6-channel Vibrating Wire data loggers to transmit data from any number of sensor configurations. Water level sensors can be connected through Analog or Digital data loggers.

Radial & tangential stresses in concrete tunnels

Shotcrete pressure cell (NATM’s)

Strain & stress in steel arch supports

Strain gauge Strain meter rosette

Attach vibrating wire strain gauges to the steel arch supported by arc welding them directly to the steel arch to achieve long-term strain measurements of the structural element. Connect the gauges to the Vibrating Wire 6-channel data logger. Additionally, it is possible to embed vibrating wire strain gauges in the shotcrete to measure strains within the tunnel lining.

Movements across surface cracks

Crackmeter Draw wire sensor

Crack meters available in the market can be readily connected to a Vibrating Wire 1-channel data logger or the Piconode to monitor movement across surface cracks.

Loads & movement in beadings and joints

Pressure transducer Crackmeter Extensometer

Monitor the pot bearing pressure and displacement through pressure sensors, extensometers or crackmeters. Control the joint expansions and contractions wirelessly connecting these sensors to Analog, Digital or Vibrating Wire data loggers.

Superficial drainage

V-notch

Open channel flow & pond level monitoring

V-notch Level sensor Vibrating wire weir

Different sensors compatible with Worldsensing data loggers can monitor flow in open channels and seepage collection ditches. For instance, non-contact level sensors using radar or ultrasonic technology can connect to the Analog data logger. Additionally, a vibrating wire weir monitor and a V-notch can measure flow in an open channel using a Vibrating Wire 1-channel data logger. Some of these sensors are also suitable for monitoring tailings pond levels.

Stresses in shotcrete

Pressure cell

Assess the tangential and radial stresses in shotcrete support for underground excavations with pressure cells connected to the Vibrating Wire 6-channel data logger.

Load in rock bolts, cable bolts & ground anchors

Load cell

Ensure the proper functionality of anchor systems (active and passive) by monitoring in a representative sample the load throughout their lifecycle including the load tests and stressing works. Stream data wirelessly from most of the load cells based on resistive strain gauges available in the market using the Piconode data logger. The 6-channel Vibrating Wire and the Digital data loggers can also be suitable, depending on the type of load cell.
