As part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks of the Horizon 2020 programme, Worldsensing welcomes Ayesha Sahar as a PhD researcher in Machine Learning.

Ayesha is from Pakistan and studied Computer Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. After a funded summer internship in the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz – DFKI) in Kaiserslautern, Germany, she completed a Masters in Computer Science on a fully-funded scholarship in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), one of the top-ranked universities in South-Korea.

Her main tasks will be developed within the EU funded project Windmill (Machine Learning for Wireless Communications), a European Training Network (ETN) project, within the framework of the H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Programme. The project Kick-Off Meeting took place in Aalborg, Denmark, on 18 November 2019.
An innovation project to combine cutting-edge technologies in wireless communications (WiC) networks
This 4-year project focuses on integrating two technology fields: machine learning and wireless communication, with a special emphasis on research, training and knowledge sharing among 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs). Partners include leading international research institutes and companies. By the project completion, a new generation of interdisciplinary experts, extremely competitive on the job market, will be available.
Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides systems with the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. It is therefore a solution for handling the massive volume and complexity of data expected in the coming years resulting from Internet-of-Things blooming.
Denis Guilhot, Senior EU Project Manager at Worldsensing, explains that the selection process for this position was very competitive: “Out of the applications we received, 12 candidates were invited for an interview, out of which 3 were selected as finalists. Ayesha was the successful candidate thanks to her combination of technical and industrial skills. She is not only outstanding technically, with relevant experience in research, programming, Internet-of-Things, wireless networks, indoor positioning and Machine Learning, but also has industrial experience, business knowledge and is autonomous as a researcher.”
