Barcelona, March 2019
In 2016, the Worldsensing innovation team set out to enhance the current version of Worldsensing’s leading outdoor parking management system Fastprk. By means of the Fastprk2 R&D project, funded by the European Commission, the team was able to develop new product functionalities including certified parking occupancy detection and smart services for drivers which together form an advanced, end-to-end parking management solution making it one of the leading offerings available today.
“We were able to successfully complete this project due to two reasons: working with one of the best parking management systems available at hand which is Fastprk and having access to the complete Worldsensing Smart City product and solution ecosystem”, points out Jose Gorchs, head project manager and Fastprk2 Product Owner. “Being able to work with and integrate the company’s IoT core technology, OneMind, was definitely a game changer for us”, he concludes.
Thanks to various Worldsensing departments supporting the initiative, such as the in-house engineering department, the Barcelona-based IoT pioneer was able to meet all requirements in line with the European Commission’s H2020 initiative. The main achievements of the project are:
“In view of these achievements, not only have the project objectives been fully met, but Fastprk2 has been a true agent of change for Worldsensing, by yielding a new commercial product and contributing to a more mature company”, emphasizes Jose Gorchs.
In line with the European Commission’s strategy to share open data in order to foster knowledge transfer, Worldsensing has shared Fastprk2 data from the pilot parking campaign, as well as project deliverables labelled as public, in the Zenodo portal to facilitate the work of data scientists, and to support European scientific collaboration:
A dedicated Fastprk 2 project website went live in September 2016 to raise awareness about how challenging it is to develop an efficient parking management strategy in cities, and to show how Fastprk2 contributes to this. Now that the EU project has been completed, any update or news related to Fastprk2 will be published on the Worldsensing corporate website only. The Fastprk2 project website will remain active until 2021.
Fastprk is the leading outdoor parking management system and ranked among the top four systems by the International Data Corporation (IDC). The new Fastprk evolution suite is based on a Worldsensing innovation project funded by the European Commission called Fastprk2. The Fastprk2 innovation project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the grant agreement No 726607.
The commercial Fastprk brand now includes highly accurate, dual-detection parking sensors and runs on an advanced software solution that can connect to 3rd party APIs and subsystems enabling cities, malls and parking operators to optimize slot utilization, implement guidance, enforcement and payments to increase revenues, minimize fraud and reduce traffic. Together with its global partner network, Fastprk enables end-to-end parking management solutions. Enriched with AI features, Fastprk is among the front runners in applying deep learning algorithms for parking predictions and is compatible with modern LPWA radio networks.
