The increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events are heightening the land’s vulnerability to landslides. Coupled with evolving land-use patterns, this trend is expected to amplify risks across vast regions.
Recent advancements in wireless monitoring systems now enable efficient, long-range, and low-power communication for proactive monitoring of slope instability, potential landslides, and excavation activities that could jeopardize infrastructure and human safety.
This article presents a method for the rapid detection of landslide events using a network of wireless inclinometers. These devices feature long-range communication capabilities, are powered by internal batteries, and have been applied as part of the AMICOS project framework.
The proposed system can issue near-real-time alerts with minimal latency (under 5 seconds) when an event is detected, even when operating with 25 sensors simultaneously activated.
