What would you like people to know about you?

I’m the first Chinese in the company. I was born in Malaysia, so that makes me a Malaysian Chinese. We possess excellent traits of adaptability and a strong command of languages. I can speak five languages, which is a common thing among us. Our early education demands us to speak at least three formal languages, and a few local dialects depending on individual family background.

What has made you feel included at work?

When I first joined Worldsensing, I flew to Barcelona for the onboarding sessions. As soon as I entered the HQ building, I loved the office environment because people had a very passionate and welcoming attitude. I felt welcomed because I was constantly approached by new co-workers as we got ourselves introduced—in Asia, generally, we tend to be more conservative because we don’t usually interact with unfamiliar faces at work. When I first joined Worldsensing I felt that making friends was easy because icebreaking was effortless.

How do you think each person can help create an inclusive environment at work?

When I first joined Worldsensing I had the opportunity to join a weekly Friday after-work beer session. I felt included because I was invited to the session and people tend to speak English instead of Spanish in my presence. What people can do to make everyone feel included is to speak a common language and to organise cultural exchange events where people get to share their unique and interesting cultural experiences in a company with employees of diversified ethnicity, races and cultural backgrounds.
