Piconode: The new 1-channel member of the product family

Barcelona, October 2018
Worldsensing has just launched the newest addition to the Loadsensing wireless monitoring portfolio: The Piconode is the smallest and most affordable wireless node available in the Loadsensing product family.
Despite its small size, the 1-channel, 1-thermistor and 1-pulse counter data node, is powerful enough to be deployed in harsh environments and isolated locations. From monitoring structural health and geological hazards in construction projects of tunnels to dams, Piconode allows digitizing sensors in hard-to-access, remote areas through LoRa radio technology.

“In the construction industry, we are open to partnerships with specialized contractors to digitize the methods and technologies used to connect ground anchors, structural bearings, stay cables, prestressing tendons, expansion joints or concrete temperature to the internet. By packaging these structural elements with the right sensor and a wireless Piconode, contractors can establish themselves as a connected technology vendor”, explains Juan Perez, Product Manager and owner of the Loadsensing system.

With Piconode, companies specialized in crack monitoring for architecture and cultural heritage sites, or engineering contractors that offer technical construction solutions and repair services, now also have a cost-effective opportunity to shift to wireless monitoring.

“Piconode is a great opportunity for sensor manufacturers to expand their existing product portfolio.” Perez adds.

Not only does Piconode pave the way for specialist contractors, the Piconode components have been designed to be small enough to be integrated into the casing of an existing sensor in order to make it wireless. It allows sensor manufacturers to offer the best solution to meet their end client’s challenges.
Just like the existing 4 and 5 channel nodes in the Loadsensing product family, through LoRa technology, Piconode performs well in terms of range and connectivity, and is compatible with various sensors that are usually installed in isolation such as crackmeters, load cells, displacement transducers, cable extension sensors, temperature probes, pressure sensors in pipes, soil moisture sensors and rain gauges.

“Loadsensing is a well known system, but we want to continue disrupting the construction industry. The Piconode is another step towards fully digitizing construction and mining monitoring.” says Ignasi Vilajosana, CEO and co-founder of Worldsensing.
“Through Piconode, we aim to break the entry barriers to new markets that perform static weighing, static force and torque measurements and pressure and temperature measurements in industrial process monitoring and show partners how they can benefit from wireless IoT monitoring technology”, adds Juan Perez.

For companies who want to test how investing in wireless technology can help them obtain better results, Worldsensing offers at 3-month risk free trial of the Piconode. For more details or requests, click here.
